نور الدين العلوي يكتب: نحن إزاء يسار غير يساري (أو يسار مجازي) لا يتجاوز عندنا في الوقت الحالي دور جهاز الدعاية للسلطة وتبرير القمع الذي لا ينالهم وإنما ينزل بعدوهم الكثير العدد، فكلما أقصى عدوهم الرجعي اطمأنوا في مواقعهم وضمنوا بقاء مجزيا. والأمر لا يتعلق عندهم بالديمقراطية ولا بالتقدمية، فلم نر تقدميا يعادي الحريات مثل اليسار التونسي، وهو عينة دليلة من اليسار العربي، أما الدولة الاجتماعية فماكثة في الكراس النظري القديم الذي ران عليه الغبار
