وفقاً لتقارير إعلامية دولية فإن مساعد الطيار العُماني كان محظوراً من الطيران في بلاده للاشتباه بتبنّيه آراء متطرفة، لافتة إلى أن السلطات العُمانية منعته من قيادة طائرات لأسباب أمنية، للاعتقاد بأنه تأثر بجماعات إسلامية متطرفة خلال رحلة له إلى سوريا.
