اتهم رئيس أركان الجيش الإثيوبي، المشير برهانو جولا، مصر والسودان بدعم تحالف جديد من جماعات مسلحة وسياسية تسعى إلى الإطاحة بحكومة رئيس الوزراء أبي أحمد. في حين نفى مصدر دبلوماسي مصري لبي بي سي الاتهامات الإثيوبية، وقال إن القاهرة لا تتدخل في الأزمة الداخلية الإثيوبية، وإن على أديس أبابا معالجة أزماتها الداخلية بدلاً من إلقاء مسؤوليتها على أطراف خارجية. كما أصدر الجيش السوداني بياناً رفض فيه الاتهامات الإثيوبية واصفاً إياها بأنها " لا أساس لها من الصحة".
