Three months on, haze-choked Indonesia records over 400,000 respiratory infections

Since August, over 400,000 people in Indonesia have suffered from haze-related respiratory illnesses, primarily due to toxic smoke from wildfires in Borneo and Sumatra. The air quality has reached hazardous levels, leading to not only respiratory issues but also other health problems, and contributing to an estimated 3,560 deaths in September alone. The intensity of the wildfires this year is the worst in over a decade, exacerbated by budget cuts to emergency response efforts.
